deminingFocused on the feasibility study sponsored by the European Space Agency and national space Agencies (Italy, Spain and Belgium), the outcome of the first project phase is a demonstrator for the integrated use of space technologies (earth observation, communication and navigation) to support of demaining actions. The use of space technologies can increase the ability to identify the areas mined by reducing the cost of demining operations. MEEO lead the review of existing EO products and services that can be suitable for the purpose of the project.

The second phase of the project is currently running – SAFEDEM Demonstration – until the end of 2014: some of the technical solutions identified in the feasibility study are implemented and applied in four pilot areas to demonstrate to end-users and stakeholders the effectiveness of satellite technology in support of humanitarian demining.
