From the long-term collaboration with experts in molecular dynamics applications in the context of fluid dynamics, the THERCONF (THERmal CONFinement) code has been developed.
Initially conceived in response to an Invitation To Tender of the European Space Agency to carry out a feasibility study of the experimental conditions within the Interaction in Cosmic and Atmospheric Particle Systems (ICAPS) project, the code is implemented to allow the simulation and the fluid dynamic analysis of the kinetic behavior of a population of particles within a mono-/bi-molecular fluid.
The THERCONF code has been validated on the basis of experiments documented in the literature (Gallis, MA, et al. Thermophoresis in Rarefied Gas Flows, Aerosol Science and Technology 36, 2002, pp. 1099-1117) showing a good degree of accuracy of the results obtained (error <3%).
