CLimate change, Extreme weather and Air quality anomalies Resilience through novel Earth Observation advanced data analytics
The project
Extreme weather events, poor air quality and weather anomalies have increased in frequency in recent years, mainly due to climate change. As their patterns become less predictable, forecasting and warning about such events grows increasingly difficult. To address this, the EU-funded CLEAR-EO project will develop an innovative analysis and geospatial notification system leveraging novel European cloud infrastructure and new satellite data from Meteosat Third Generation and EUMETSAT Polar System – Second Generation. The project will provide the foundations for key applications and services, including on-demand decision making workflows for flash floods in urban areas, climate change impacts adaptation in agriculture and accurate air quality forecasts. The final goal is to contribute to and enhance the Copernicus and the EO/weather services ecosystem.
What MEEO does
MEEO contributes as an Affiliated Entity of SISTEMA. SISTEMA GmbH leads the project's data and services infrastructure, building the federated data space that underpins the Virtual Observatory. It also develops the satellite data products (Sentinel-4/5 and MTG) that feed the air quality forecasting pilot, and acts as the project's Data Manager.
