Earth observation and urban management
Satellite technologies integrate environmental information to provide a comprehensive view of cities and territories, strengthening sustainable urban planning. By detecting expansion dynamics, land consumption, and the condition of green infrastructure, they help orient targeted actions while also mapping heat-island patterns to support effective mitigation strategies. At the same time, continuous monitoring of critical infrastructure enables timely maintenance and reduces risks. During emergencies, these systems offer an immediate overview of affected areas, improving coordination and response. Overall, they turn complex geospatial data into actionable intelligence for cities that aim to be more efficient, safe, and resilient.
With VICARIUS project, MEEO addresses the need for tools that can visualize and communicate coexisting and interconnected risks (climatic, environmental, natural, anthropogenic) in urban and metropolitan contexts, supporting coordinated decision-making across different sectors.
